NEW Theatre A.F.A. Degree!

NHCC is now offering a new Associate in Fine Arts degree in Theatre!

The Theatre A.F.A. provides a broad background in theatre for students planning to continue their studies in a fine arts baccalaureate program. With rigorous academic studies and hands-on theatre methods and practices, coursework includes general education requirements, as well as classes in improvisational and character building acting, theatre design, stage voice and movement, performance and technical theatre practicum, and more.

Jane Wilson, Dean of Fine Arts, states, “The Theatre A.F.A. provides a solid foundation in the essentials. Transitioning to a B.A. or B.F.A. program will further enhance a student’s education and employability.”

With 73 theatre companies in the Twins Cities alone, there are many job opportunities for actors, designers, costumers, and support personnel. The Minnesota Film and TV Board indicates that the film industry in Minnesota employs 4,112 people on a continuing basis with a $76 million payroll. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, national projections in this industry are anticipated to increase by 14.1% by 2018.
