Why NHCC

Why Choose to Attend NHCC?

Modern Campus and Facilities
Situated on a beautiful 120-acre campus just minutes from downtown Minneapolis, NHCC is one of the largest, most diverse community colleges in the state. It features state-of-the-art facilities, which will soon include an expanded Center for Business and Technology that will provide the latest in multimedia technology, lab equipment, and a student-centered learning environment.

Helpful Faculty, Staff, and Resources
Our faculty are highly credentialed, bringing years of industry experience and a passion for teaching. They get to know students by name and even schedule one-on-one meetings outside of class because truly care about your academic success. Counselors and advisors can also provide students with an abundance of resources to help them succeed with their educational, career, financial, leadership, and personal pursuits. These resources include the GPS LifePlan program, tutoring, career planning, college prep classes, advising for English for speakers of other languages, disability services, veterans resources, and access to computer labs, just to name a few.

Quality Programs
The education provided at NHCC rivals the most prestigious of higher learning institutions even though you pay less in tuition than private two-year colleges or other public and private four-year universities. NHCC is accredited, so credits transfer easily into most bachelor's degree programs. You can even earn certain bachelor's degrees on NHCC's campus through our partnering universities. We even offer short-term, non-credit, customized training programs for businesses and their employees.

Low Cost Tuition and Financial Aid Assistance
With one of the lowest college tuition rates in the state, NHCC awards more than $30 million in financial aid to students each year in the form of grants, scholarships, work-study opportunities, and loans. The NHCC Foundation has awarded more than $2 million in student scholarships alone since its inception. And NHCC's staff are there to help you through the financial aid process.

Flexible Scheduling
Flexible scheduling make it possible for students to earn a degree while balancing work and family obligations. We have classes in the mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, online, hybrid, classroom capture, and off-campus. Accelerated programs also allow students to finish in a shorter amount of time.

Fun Activities
And there are plenty of activities to get involved with, such as student clubs and organizations, recreational sports, and performing and visual arts. There are also service learning projects and study abroad options. Plus, NHCC is one of the few community colleges in the country that offers undergraduate research opportunities in biology, chemistry, and geology.

Why Stay and  Graduate from NHCC?

Save Money
Tuition is less expensive at NHCC than at private colleges and four-year public universities – while having equivalent quality and value. It makes sense to earn as many credits as possible (maybe even more than a two-year degree requires) at the reduced tuition rate before transferring. In addition, the benefits of small class sizes and individual attention and support at two-year colleges often far exceed that of four-year schools.

Earn More and Increase Employability
Statistics show that income goes up and unemployment goes down as education increases. Median earnings increase by about $5,000 per year and unemployment drops by about 2% for students who earn an associate degree compared to students who begin college, but do not attain at least a two-year degree.

Improve Odds of Earning a 4-year Degree
Studies show that earning an associate degree prior to transfer creates motivation that positively impacts bachelor degree attainment.

Improve Transferability
While transfer between institutions has gotten easier, transferring with a completed associate degree is the surest way to eliminate the variances that students may experience when transferring without a degree. For example, without a completed degree, courses may transfer as electives rather than core program requirements.

Remove Academic Suspension Message from Your Transcript
If you have been academically suspended, a suspension message is posted to your transcript. This message is removed from your transcript upon completion of your degree – and degree completion is the only way this message is removed.

Continued Financial Aid for Second Degree
After earning your first two-year degree, you remain eligible to receive aid as long as you update your student record (at Records & Registration) with your new degree intent/plans. This assumes you are otherwise eligible for aid based on demonstration of need, level of enrollment, academic progress, etc.
