    O’Brien Appointed to The Arc Minnesota Board of Directors

    Dr. John O’Brien, President of North Hennepin Community College (NHCC) in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, was appointed to the Board of Directors of The Arc Minnesota.  His term on the board will begin January 1, 2012.  Larry Kugler, President of The Arc Minnesota, announced the appointment today.

    “We are delighted to have John on our board,” Kugler said.  “His commitment to Minnesotans and their future is reflected in his professional work and in his membership and involvement in a variety of organizations.  He is an excellent addition to our organization.” 

    In addition to his service as NHCC President, O’Brien has held positions at a number of other post-secondary institutions:  Director of the Students First Project at the Office of the Chancellor at MNSCU; Acting President, Academic Vice President, and Chief Academic Officer at Century College; and Faculty Member and Faculty Association President at Normandale Community College. 

     

    His professional associations include the League for Innovation in the Community College, Educause, Catalyze Learning International, and the Minnesota Campus Compact.  Outside of academia, he has volunteered with several agencies.  He is a past board member of Storefront and Kantorei Chamber Choir, and has been involved with Rotary International, Luoma Leadership Academy, and the Lutheran Social Service Foundation Board.

    The Arc Minnesota is a non-profit organization that promotes and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and actively supports their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes.  It has 5,400 members and supporters and 12 affiliated local chapters across the state of Minnesota.  You can learn more about The Arc Minnesota’s activities and services at www.arcmn.org
