Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) Board Policy 3.36 “Academic Programs” requires that each system college and university shall regularly review its academic programs for the purpose of academic planning and improvement.
Each system college and university shall submit an annual summary of its academic program review activity to the chancellor.
Each college and university shall review all academic programs and departments where applicable with respect to:

Contribution to the mission and plans of the institution

Assessment of student learning outcomes

Academic program assessment
-
Compliance with accreditation, licensure or certification requirements, or other requirements
-
Advisory committee or other appropriate industry or professional input as agreed to by the faculty and administration of the institution
-
Labor market information when preparing for an occupation or profession is a stated purpose of the program or is determined to be a gainful employment program, certificate, or diploma
-
Resources
-
Applicable system policy, procedures, or guidelines
-
Articulation agreements, where appropriate
-
Compliance with Minnesota Transfer Curriculum requirements
-
Other factors as appropriate
The college or university shall use results of the review for improvement of academic programming. In accordance with MnSCU Board Policy, each program and academic discipline shall undergo a self-study in accordance with North Hennepin Community College Program Review Guidelines and Procedures as amended from time to time.
Representatives from the discipline or program under review will make brief presentations to the Academic Affairs and Standards Council (AASC), summarizing the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats identified as a result of the review process and summarizing briefly the discipline/program goals set for the five years following the year of review. The goal of presenting the self-study report to the AASC is to have a forum through which the college community can share ideas and concerns relative to programs offered at North Hennepin Community College. Self-study reports will be considered and utilized by the AASC relative to future AASC actions.

Procedure on Program Reviews
MnSCU and North Hennepin Community College policy requires each campus to do regular program reviews to accomplish the following objectives:

Demonstrate the quality of the program

Demonstrate compliance with accreditation, licensure or certification requirements or other requirements

Assess compliance with Minnesota Transfer Curriculum requirements

Address the assessment of student learning outcomes

Assess the direction of the program

Evaluate the curriculum to determine updates and/or modifications

Provide faculty and departments quantitative and qualitative data in order to assess and improve instruction

Plan for meeting current and identified future needs of students and the community

Examine enrollment trends

Investigate the employment/transfer needs

Examine community needs
-
Meet program reporting requirements established in board policy and in state statute

Establish staffing and/or hiring needs

Review articulation agreements, where appropriate
