The Post Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) program allows high school students the opportunity to earn college credits or to use those credits towards the completion of high school graduation requirements.
Accuplacer Testing Eligibility
- High School Seniors must rank in the top half (50%) of their high school class or top half nationally on a standardized test.
- High School Juniors must rank in the top third (66%) of their high school class or top third nationally on a standardized test.
Examples of standardized tests: ACT, SAT, PLAN, etc.
Students younger than 16 or older than 20 are not eligible for PSEO.
Application Deadline
The priority application deadline for the fall semester is April 15. The final deadline is July 1 (adjusted to the next business day if this date falls on a weekend).
The application deadline for spring semester is December 1 (adjusted to the next business day if this date falls on a weekend).
There is no PSEO enrollment during summer session. High school students interested in summer attendance apply for high school non-PSEO enrollment.
Application Process
STEP 1: Complete and submit ALL application documents together. Before submitting your application, make sure that you have included all of the required documents listed below. Incomplete applications will result in a delay of processing for determination of PSEO eligibility and next steps.
- NHCC PSEO Application (PSEO students do not pay the application fee)
- Notice of Student Registration (MN State form) with signatures from the student, parent/guardian and high school official.
- Official High School Transcripts (in a sealed envelope from the school). Transcripts must include the most recent semester grades.
- Official Standardized Test Scores are ALSO required if you attend homeschool, charter or alternative schools, and if no class rank is indicated on your official transcript. Examples of accepted tests include, but are not limited to ACT, SAT and PLAN. Test results must be no more than 12 months old at the time of submission. Test results indicated on an official high school transcript are acceptable only if the national rank is included.
- PSEO Agreement of Understanding should be thoroughly reviewed.
STEP 2: Schedule Accuplacer Testing Appointment. You must schedule your testing appointment well in advance. Testing must be completed prior to the PSEO application deadline. Students are responsible for submitting test results (or approved test waivers) to the Admissions Office.
- Take the Accuplacer test to determine if admission into the PSEO program will be granted. Admission will be granted only to students testing at college level on the reading portion of the test. Test waivers will be considered upon request to the NHCC Testing Center for additional information. Students are responsible for submitting their test results to the Admissions Office prior to the deadline. The results of your placement test will also help you select classes matched to your skills.
PSEO Funding Restrictions
- PSEO funding does not cover the cost of developmental courses (course numbered below 1000); PSEO students registering for developmental courses are responsible for payment of tuition and fees for these courses.
- PSEO funding does not cover courses which have additional fees, such as those charged for Applied Piano, Digital Photography, Golf, etc.
- The Minnesota Department of Education will only cover PSEO expenses billed by the institution(s) to which PSEO students have been admitted. PSEO students will be responsible for any tuition, fees, and supplies at any institution(s) to which they are not admitted.
